I was given a ticket to see QOTSA at the WAMU Theater inside MSG the other night. Brief observations:
I was in the cheap seats, where you could safely stand in aisle for 30 seconds before a security guy gently prompted you back to your seat; the mix up there was heavy on guitars and the singer’s voice, Josh Homme, and little of the rest of the band; it’s funny watching people ‘rock out’ in seats hundreds of feet from the stage; when the band played songs that were a)slower or b)disco-y, they stunk; and they didn’t play No One Knows (could it be b/c Dave Grohl wasn’t on the drumkit. Ahh. Dave Grohl drumming. Totally brings my rocker geek out. He’s a non-entity in Foo Fighters, but almost a genius behind the drums. Just my opinion, folks.)
I haven’t seen a big concert in a long while. It was alright, but I felt very little connection to the band, as I expected. But they’re more of a rock party band anyhow. So whad’I expect anyhow?
